Privacy Notice

Last updated: 14 October 2026

Happy Learners is run by Michelle Ho ("we", "us"). We are the data controller for the personal data described in this notice. We built this website for children to use with their families, so we collect as little personal data as possible — and we never knowingly collect personal data directly from children.

What we collect

  • Account details — the parent's or carer's name and email address, and login credentials, when you create an account.
  • Support messages — anything you send us when you contact us.
  • Usage and technical data — pages visited, quiz progress, device type, browser and IP address, collected automatically to keep the website working and improve it.

Payment details (card numbers and billing information) are collected and processed by Paddle, our Merchant of Record — we never see or store your card details.

Why we use it

  • to create and manage your account (performance of our contract);
  • to provide the quizzes and remember progress (contract);
  • to keep the website secure and prevent fraud (legitimate interests);
  • to improve the website (legitimate interests);
  • to respond to your questions (contract and legitimate interests);
  • to meet legal obligations, such as tax records (legal obligation).

Who we share it with

  • Service providers who host and run the website and help us understand how it is used;
  • Paddle, our Merchant of Record, who processes sales, subscriptions, payments, tax compliance and invoicing;
  • Professional advisers (such as accountants or lawyers) where needed;
  • Authorities where the law requires it.

International transfers

Some of our service providers are based outside the UK/EEA. Where personal data is transferred internationally, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as adequacy decisions or standard contractual clauses.

How long we keep it

We keep personal data only for as long as we need it — for example, account data while your account is active, and billing records for the period required by tax law. When it is no longer needed, we delete or anonymise it.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have the right to access, correct or delete your personal data, to restrict or object to how we use it, to data portability, and to withdraw consent where we rely on it. We respond to requests within one month. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).

Security

We use appropriate technical and organisational measures — including encryption and access controls — to keep personal data safe.

Cookies

We use essential cookies to keep you signed in and make the website work, and privacy-respecting analytics to understand how the website is used. We do not use advertising or marketing cookies. You can control cookies through your browser settings.
